• Child Find

    JGESA is committed to ensuring that comprehensive child find activities occur in order to properly identify students who qualify for special education services. We are committed to esuring that qualifying students receive a free and appropriate public educaiton in their least restrictive environment. 



    A referral to special education may be made by a teacher, outside agency, parent or other concerned adult. Parents may contact their child's Advisor for guidance in this process. Intensive interventions are implemented prior to proceeding to assessment for special education. 



    A comprehensive assessment is completed by a multi-discipllinary team. Areas addressed include: academic, social, emotional, behavioral, attention, motor, cognitive, and sensory. The multi-disciplinary team may include: Advisor(s), Parent(s)/Gaurdian(s), School Psychologist, Special Education Advisor, Related Service Personnel, and Administrative Designee. 



    If a student qualifies for services, the team will meet and develop an Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Services may be provided in the general education setting or within the special education setting. Services may also be provided through consultations or directly with licensed special education personnel.
